| JVC GY-HM100 |
Week one and no time is wasted in getting us to learn the production side. In this work shop we were given an induction for the camera JVC GY-HM100, by Dominique. In this session we were taught how to adequately operate the camera.
We learnt things such:
- turn it ON and OFF
- turn it onto manual mode
- adjust white balance manually
- how to focus properly manually
- zoom
- ISO
I was quite confused at first because Dominique started off by just speaking about the different aspects about the camera with the assistance of a video and I'm more of a "hands on" kind of learner. But that wasn't a problem as we were given time to explore the camera right after. We were also given a little group exercises that involved us just filming little things in order to get more used to the cameras. The four piece group consisted of: Eddis, Pierre, Samara and I.
At the end of the 4 hour session, we were given a our first weekly assignment.
The brief read:
"Due: Week 2, in class, so if your workshop group is Wednesday morning, you need to bring it in then.
In groups of 4, produce a single shot that represents a unity of action and creates a sense of completeness. It should contain a beginning, middle and end."

Based on the brief, and in the same group I worked with in class, below is what we produced:
I think this has been a success. Although I found it hard at first to learn all about the camera, I found that the more I and the group experimented with the camera the more we got used to it. I am still not 100% confident using the camera, but I do believe that with time I will be able to mater it!
